Have you recently started blogging? Or maybe blog you for a while already? If the answer is yes, you've probably already heard of the word "Niche". For some bloggers, this 5 letter word is a head-on in their existence in blogging.
There are two styles of blogging: The Lifestyle Blog, and The Niche Blog.
The Life Style blogger writes just about everything. Their audience is there because readers love the personality of the blogger. Readers really come and go, and opportunities to monetize can be more difficult.
The blogger of Niche writes on a specific domain. It has an audience because the blogger solves a problem. Readership is stable and readers often turn into customers.
There is nothing wrong with either blog style, both are quite popular. On the other hand, if your goal is to earn some money with blogging, then you'd better choose a niche blog.
Here are 5 steps to defining your Niche
1 - Discover your passion
" Passion is king! Transformation can only begin if you breathe this passion "- MA Tohami
Think for a moment about the thing that gives you energy. Something, that when you put your body and soul into it, it ignites a fire and stimulates you in action. It's the passion.
When you are passionate about something it's not hard to talk about it. You want to share it with everyone around you. It does not come and go, it stays with you on the long term.
Here are the questions to ask yourself:
- What attracts my interest?
- What do I like to talk about?
- What are my favorite topics for discussion?
- What attracts my attention?
Feeling passion for your niche is important. Your passion will be seen in your writing, in your efforts, and your authenticity will shine through it.
2- Identify your skills
Skills are an accumulation of your talents, attributes and knowledge. When they come together, they form your skill set.
Tandis que l’expérience éducative joue un rôle important dans l’identification de vos compétences, n’oubliez pas de prendre en considération vos expériences de vie. Certains des meilleurs cuisiniers au monde n’ont jamais eu de formation officielle.
Questions to ask yourself:
- In which areas am I good?
- What subjects do I master?
- In what areas do my friends / family come to me for advice?
When you write about what you know, you already have a knowledge base with which you can start. You will feel more comfortable with what you are familiar with than if you have to learn a whole new set of skills.
3 - Identify your audience
Identifying for what type of people you are writing is a key aspect to defining your niche. Without a targeted audience, it can be easy to turn away.
Imagine the person you are writing for. Ask yourself:
- What is she passionate about?
- How old is this person?
- What are its needs?
When you have a targeted audience, you have readers that you understand. You will know who you are writing for. And your audience will come knowing what it expects of you.
4 - Solve a problem
People often rely on the Internet to solve a problem. This could be something as simple as, "ideas for dinner. Or more complex like, "How to have traffic using Pinterest? "
Niche blogs help solve problems. From culinary blogs to blogs about parenting, they all provide solutions to the problems of life.
By choosing your niche, ask yourself:
- How can I help?
- Is this a common problem?
- Do I have the solution?
- Can I potentially earn some money with?
By providing useful information to your readers, you will gain credibility in your niche. This, in turn, will bring social proof, and potentially open the doors to make affiliate on your blog.
5 - Establish your goals
Setting goals for your blog will help you stay focused and bring more productivity. You must be able to set goals that are achievable. Objectives that will help you go further in your experience in blogging.
When you set goals ask yourself:
- What do I want to achieve?
- Or will it be my blog in 3 months, 6 months, 1 year?
Be as specific as you can. It is good to review your goals every month to make sure you are still working on the task.
Review your goals and look there you've been successful. Note what works for you and why you think it works. Also take notes that will not work for you.
The benefits of niche blogging
The benefits of niche blogging go far beyond the process of finally choosing a niche. Blogging in an area for which you are passionate will help you stay on track, bringing you a loyal readership and confidence that will grow as you go.
Niche blogs provide a good opportunity to monetize your blog. Establish credibility for yourself, which could probably turn your blog into a business.
In summary
As a blogger, defining your niche could be the most difficult task you can face. However, this is the most important.
Discover your passion, define your skills accurately, identify your audience, solve a problem, set goals and reap the benefits.
